The Church of St. Peter

The Church
of St. Peter

The Church of Saint Peter, built in 1277 in a Genoese Gothic style, offers a particularly evoking atmosphere among its dark naves.

The Church is in Piazza Lazzaro Spallanzani in Portovenere, in the Gulf of the Poets, also known as the Gulf of La Spezia. The monument rises on a cliff above the sea and is one of the most enchanting places in Liguria. Right because of its charm, there are tens of loving couples that decide to marry here.

We recommend visiting this church not only for its intrinsic artistic value, but also for its extraordinary historical and architectural heritage. The monument, in full Genoese-Gothic style, is distinguished thanks to its peculiar structure: the entrance is placed on the side. The Gothic bell tower is also worth a visit; a small loggia facing the sea and a steep staircase that takes to a panoramic square, from where you can enjoy a wonderful view on the sea.
