The village, built on levels as all settlements on torrent-like valleys, is characterised by its peculiar houses: these are painted with the Ligurian colours and structured like tower-houses.
In the high area of Riomaggiore stands the Church of San Giovani Battista, built in 1340.
It is precisely from Riomaggiore that the Via dell’Amore (route of love) starts. It is a famous path among the rocks that connects Riomaggiore with Manarola.
